What is patient advocacy?
Patient advocates ensure you have the information, support, and guidance you need to make the best decisions for your health.
A patient advocate works alongside you to help you understand your options, navigate insurance, coordinate with your care team, and feel confident about the decisions you're making for your health. Depending on your needs, an advocate may also attend appointments or hospital stays with you in person. An integral part of an advocate’s work is to ensure that the healthcare you receive is guided by your goals and values.
Patient advocates are typically board certified through the Patient Advocate Certification Board and must renew their certification every three years, either through continuing education or a new exam, to maintain their board certification status. Some patient advocates are former or current clinicians and may not carry the BCPA certification. At this time it is not legally required to be a BCPA in order to practice patient advocacy, however, the certification brings an extra level of assurance that your advocate has demonstrated the knowledge needed to practice patient advocacy.
It is important to know that patient advocates are not medical providers. We cannot diagnose or treat conditions, but we can help you navigate complex diagnoses and find the right doctors for your situation, including specialists and second opinions.
No concern is too small. At Steadfast Advocacy, we're here to simplify the healthcare journey and help you make informed decisions with confidence. Your personal goals and values guide everything that we do. We're here to make sure you're seen, heard, and supported. We will be there with you, looking at the big picture of your situation, to ensure that you are getting the best care possible.
We work for YOU, not a large insurance company or medical group. You deserve access to the healthcare you need.
